SRP

The SRP have been looking at the topic of light and dark. They have used this theme to sing songs around a camp fire with torches, match shadow pictures, and learn about nocturnal and diurnal animals. They had great fun on Science Day watching some chemical reactions take place. They especially enjoyed watching the vinegar foam out over the top of the beaker.

Year 2

Y2 created mini green houses to grow cress from seeds. They also planted sunflower seeds as well as pea seeds. They also planted potatoes into grow bags. They will observe what changes happen to the seeds as they grow over the next few weeks.

Year 3

Year 3 have used their classification skills to sort rocks. They were able to identify the rocks by their name and discuss their properties.

Year 5

This term in Science, we have been learning about the “Circle of Life” and how living things grow and change. We explored the life cycles of humans, animals and plants, and learnt how all living things need food, water and care to survive, using the acronym MRS GREN to help us remember the seven life processes. We also studied the difference between vertebrates and invertebrates and practised classifying animals into these groups. One of our favourite activities was learning a song to remember the five groups of vertebrates: mammals, birds, fish, amphibians and reptiles. We were especially fascinated to discover that most mammals do not lay eggs, although there are some unusual exceptions, such as the platypus!

Year 6

This term in Year 6, our topic has been Plants and Animals including Humans. We started the term by learning about the different ways to classify animals and plants. We even went on a hunt around the school grounds to look at all the different plants and trees we could find, and ways in which we could identify and classify them. We learnt about various plant and animal adaptations and the theory of evolution. Following this, we have been looking at humans more closely and in particular our circulatory system. As part of our learning about the heart, we created these amazing anatomical drawings of the human heart and all its parts.
